"He also opens their ear to instruction,
And commands that they turn from iniquity."
~ Job 36:10 (NKJV)
Mission
At Musar Mentoring, we seek to use every ethical, legal, and moral means to affect positive change in the hearts of men. We believe that a change in one's heart results in a change in one's attitude. This belief, along with our approach to mentorship through the fine arts, results in transformed men who overcome hardships to reach their fullest potential.
Vision
Our vision is to mentor high school-aged males and young adult males ages 13-30 by engaging them in the fine arts. We utilize faith-based art, African-American martial arts, and percussion music in a recreational, non-medical, and non-clinical setting to achieve therapeutic outcomes. Thus, our mentoring is focused on enrichment.
The Problem
Do you know someone who is in need of some tough love?
Do you feel you don't know where else to turn?
A lack of proper discipline leads to problematic behaviors. When improperly addressed, undisciplined behaviors that are left unmanaged oftentimes lead to negative encounters with the judicial system.
Within the United States of America, statistical reports invariably reveal that the US judicial system is failing when it comes to rehabilitation. Primarily, the demographic Black and Hispanic communities are suffering the most. Families within these communities are consistently being torn apart.
In Texas, according to a report conducted by justicepolicy.org, in 2003, "African Americans and Latinos represent about 7 out of 10 prisoners in Texas." Additionally, "There are more African American men of all ages in prison in Texas (66,300) than in the Texas higher education system (40,800)"(http://www.justicepolicy.org/images/upload/05-02_rep_txraceimprisonment_ac-rd.pdf).
The Solution
The solution comes in the form of discipline rooted in the love of our Creator God. There is discipline that only punishes, wounds, and then leaves traumatic emotional scars. However, there is also discipline that not only holds one accountable for the crime (sin), but also comes alongside the offender with the love of Jesus Christ, to pick him up out of the pit, and help him find achievable, corrective actions that lead to a more productive, enriched path of life.
At Musar Mentoring, we use practical life enrichment methods, guided by principles found in the Word of God, the Creator's instruction manual for life.
Our goal is to do our part to not only help rehabilitate young and not-so-young men, but to enrich their lives by helping them discover their own self-worth and value.
We use Art, African-American Martial Arts, and Music.
Art: Chayah Creations - faith-based drawing, painting, mixed media, digital graphic design, etc. (Read James 4:8)
African-American Martial Arts: Kingdom Warriors In Christ - faith-based African-American styles of Osebo and Chayah Agon. (Read Psalm 144:1,2)
Music: Percussion playing. In-person and virtual group meetings of fun jam sessions, playing various percussion instruments. We just gather to make a joyful noise. No experience necessary. (Read 1 Samuel 16:16; 2 Samuel 6:5)
